Who would you rather have with you in a bar fight?
James T. Kirk: (With or without his ripped shirt, his Kirk-Fu is strong.)
Worf: (He may be a pompous windbag, but he's a big strong guy who loves a fight.)
Han Solo: (He will never be accused of bringing a knife to a gunfight.)
Garibaldi: (A born scrapper.)
Obi-Wan Kenobi: (Thug, meet lightsabre.)
Which inhuman creature is most terrifying?
Wampa: (A powerful ice monster from the icy depths of Hoth.)
Acklay: (A giant, fast-moving Geonosian arena monster.)
Sarlacc: (In his belly you will find a new definition of pain and suffering, as you are slowly digested over a thousand years.)
Rancor: (Jabba the Hutt's genetically engineered monstrosity.)
Cher: (The mishapen product of medical science gone mad.)

Where else could I gush about this? Last weekend I bought the graphic novel I have waited most of my life for. Seriously, since 1983, 22 of my 35 years. JLA/Avengers. Heaven, absolute heaven. For the uninitiated, this crossover fell apart in the mid-80s amid much acrimony and mean-spirited gossip. Then, almost twenty years later the companies got their acts together and pulled it off. Brilliantly. I passed on the individual issues to wait for the trade, and what a trade it is! Seventy-five motherfrakking dollars and worth every penny. Sweet.
Not only does it collect the entire series in a beautiful, oversize hardcover, not only does it include a detailed set of annotations noting every character (over 300!) who appears and their first appearance in comics, not only does it include the proposal for the series, not only does it include the 21 pages of pencilled art completed for the aborted eighties version, but it also has dueling mid-eighties editorials from Marvel and DC that have each side's recriminations against the other!
Oh, and the art! George Perez, the perfect artist for this project, goes nuts cramming in every character who was ever a member of either team during their forty-year history. Then, towards the end they find an excuse to start piling on the villians!
The writer, Kurt Busiek, has a great time creating little moments that reflect the characters' personalities, and the personalities of their respective universes. The JLA can't believe the level of mistrust in the Marvel Universe and the Avengers mistrust the level of adoration heroes enjoy in the DCU. Super cool.
The only thing? It's not for the general public. That's for sure. Too much history! Too many costumes! But for the fanboy? Pure heaven.
Okay, I'm done. I feel better now.

I gotta say, I am digging the new Battlestar Galactica
in a major way. I think it totally shames everything Star Trek has done since Next Generation.
