From the most current release of Star Trek 4.5 inch scale figures comes the Target exclusive Seven of Nine in Silver Catsuit. As most of you who frequent this site probably know, the only 4.5 inch scale figures being produced this year are retailer exclusives. There will be no general release figures in this scale. Damn you Playmates®! The majority of these will be offered through Target (or "Starfleet Command" as the new packaging calls it), although three have been/will be offered through Toyfare magazine and one is available through New Force Comics (check out the links page). In addition to being one of the few offerings in this scale this year, Seven of Nine in the Silver Catsuit holds the distinction of being the only one of these figures composed of a completely new sculpt. The rest of this year's offerings are cobbled together from parts of previous figures (occasionally along with a newly sculpted piece or two) and/or have had only minor retooling to slightly alter their appearance (some have had ribbing added to their uniform shoulders and paint scheme changes, for example). My Seven was purchased in Cedar Falls, IA at (where else?) Target.

Silver Catsuit Seven features a reasonably good facial sculpt which is improved greatly by an excellent use of paint operations. I will have to admit that Playmates has certainly come a long way from the lousy "painted whore" make-up paint jobs on the first couple of Troi figures. This figure is so new that it won't even make it into the price guides for a couple months yet, but it retails for approximately $10.00 and may still be available at a Target near you. Or not, it depends mainly on how many lonely, desperate geek-boys live near your Target. "Oooh! Seven of Nine! She's soooo hot! Heh Heh..." Seven features limited articulation at the neck, shoulders, biceps and hips. Playmates contends that this is for aesthetic reasons; to give the figure more shaply legs and arms, unencumbered by unsightly joints. Uh-huh. I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that fewer parts = smaller cost for them. Oh well, it's not like Seven sits down much on the show anyway.

Hopefully the Silver Catsuit figure gets a thumbs up from you. You know, two out of four visitors to to this site prefer the Silver Catsuit. It's a fact.

Even though this figure has only been out for a very short period of time, Playmates has already begun recycling parts of it for other figures. Look for "Seven of Nine in the Cobalt Catsuit" from Target later this year (featuring a resculpted neckline and new paint job) and "Seven of Nine in the Cocoa Catsuit" (Bill's favorite) from Toyfare magazine in November (presumably featuring the Cobalt resculpt and another paint scheme, I haven't seen any pictures yet).

UPDATE: The "Cocoa Catsuit Seven" has been changed to the "Plum Catsuit Seven" making the cocoa suit the only one NOT manufactured. ARRGH!

SECOND UPDATE: Target wussed out on the "Cobalt Catsuit Seven" and it has become an exclusive in Europe and Austrailia. Double ARRGH!
