Mr. Scott was first released in the Classic Crew set along with the six other major characters from that series. The set was produced in 1993 and was available in general distribution. My set was purchased at the Lindale-area Target in Cedar Rapids, IA. His likeness features his earlier hairstyle from the series (parted, not combed straight back) and he has an appropriate look of consternation on his face. While the sculpting of the body leaves a bit to be desired (the arms seem a little too long and the legs a little too short), that facial expression makes the figure one of my favorites. All he needs now is a "I kenna change the laws of physics!" sound chip.

This set, unlike many of the things Playmates has manufactured, would appear to have been produced in adequate numbers to meet the demand. There were plenty to be found when they first came out and most sold at their initial retail pricing, at least in the stores in the northeast and northcentral areas of Iowa where I was doing my shopping. Likewise, the post-retail value of the set has remained relatively stable at a reasonable value for quite some time indicating a decent balance of supply and demand. Unopened, the set will now fetch an average of $30.00 on the secondary market. Opened and intact, it will average $20.00. Mr. Scott and all the figures in the set feature standard articulation at the neck, shoulders, biceps, elbows, waist, hips and knees. While there were no pack-in premiums with the set, the packaging included an Enterprise bridge "display environment" (to use Playmates' terminology).

Although this set has been repeatedly cannibalized by Playmates for numerous figures, Mr. Scott hasn't seen much reuse. The molds for this figure were reused to make the "Transporter Series" Mr. Scott and the head was reused for the "Where No Man Has Gone Before" Mr. Scott, but otherwise this figure remains unscavenged.
