- This
figure came in a set of the seven
major cast members of the original
series. The set was produced in 1993
and was available in general
distribution. My set was purchased
at the Lindale-area Target in Cedar
Rapids, IA. Unopened, the set will
now fetch an average of $30.00 on
the secondary market. Opened and
intact, the set will average $20.00.
Captain Kirk features articulation
at the neck, shoulders, biceps,
elbows, waist, hips and knees. The
highlight of this piece for me is
the sculpting of its hands in the
William Shatner "I'm- really-
emoting" open- hand- with- fingers-
together position. "It's... my.....
ship!!!"
-
- Playmates
has recently re-released this figure
in its "The Corbomite Manuever"
three-pack. The Kirk figure included
in that set has been repainted to
appear to be wearing one of the
mustard-colored phaser belts that
the Enterprise crew wore on Away
Team missions in some of the early
episodes. Otherwise the figure is
identical to this one.
-
- The molds
for this figure were also used for
the recent "Transporter Series"
Kirk. The figures in that series
were each molded from translucent
plastic and painted to appear as if
the crew member was in the middle of
transporting. Each came with a base
which would light up and play a
sound effect to simulate
"transporting." Other than the
material and paint job, the
"Transporter Series" Kirk is
identical to this one as well.
-
Parts of this
figure have seen a great deal of use as
well. The head is the same one now used
for all of the original-series-era Kirk
figures and other parts of this figure
are recycled periodically as well. The
"Casual Attire" Kirk figure, for
example, features a new torso, but all
the other parts are taken from this
figure (with a few minor paint
changes).
