- This
figure was one of the second series
of Star Trek: The Next Generation
figures produced by Playmates. This
series was produced in 1993 and
featured a wide range of lesser
characters, aliens and revamps of
the main characters from the show.
K'Ehleyr, Worf's first ill-fated
"wife", was included in this series
due to her popularity (in spite of
the fact that she had already been
killed off on the show). Rule number
one for recent Star Trek shows:
Don't get emotionally attached to
Worf. Let's count bodies shall we: 2
murdered parents, 1 murdered mother
of his child (K'Ehleyr), 1 murdered
wife (Jadzia Dax), 1 brother who
wished to commit ritual suicide
because Worf ruined his life in the
Klingon Empire and instead had his
memories and personality erased,
effectively killing him (Kurn), 1
step-brother who "went bad" and
violated the prime directive
(Nikolai Rozhenko, at least he's not
dead), 1 ex-girlfriend who died an
early death (Deanna Troi, at least
in the "All Good Things" timeline),
1 admired friend killed by some
black goo (Tasha Yar); the list goes
on and on. It's almost as bad as
being a Red Shirt on the Original
Series.
-
- K'Ehleyr
and the other second series TNG
figures were released first with a
Skybox trading card pack-in and then
re-released with a "Space Cap"
pack-in which tried to cash in on
the pog craze which was then
rampant. Generally the figures with
the "Space Cap" are currently worth
more (when unopened). I have no idea
why. Unopened, this figure will now
fetch an average of $14.00 (with
trading card) or $19.00 (with pog)
on the secondary market. Opened and
intact, the figure (with either card
or pog) will average $7.00. K'Ehleyr
features articulation at the neck
(theoretically anyway; her hair
prevents actual rotation of her
head), shoulders, biceps, elbows,
waist, hips and knees. The figure is
a decent likeness of the character,
but lacks much of the detailed
sculpting that later figures
possess. She is portrayed in the
outfit she wore on the Holodeck in
her first appearance, the TNG
episode "The Emissary," and her
accessories are also drawn from this
episode.
-
Unlike most
of the figures chronicled here so far,
this figure has never been cannibalized
to create other cheap, pieced-together
figures. The only part which has
resurfaced is the "Ceremonial Sword"
accessory which has been included with
other figures as well. The snap-on
spiked glove and life support mask
accessories are molded to fit the
specific parts of the figure and work
well.
