Reflections from Phoebe and Dave on the wedding process.
Happily Ever After
August 01, 2005, 02:06:32 PM by Phoebe
As our married life begins, we want to start by thanking all of you for making out "big day" as special as it was. We will post more later, but now there are many gifts to be put away before the cats (ok, maybe just Alpha) break them. Love to all! -Phoebe and Dave
No More Gluesticks!
July 25, 2005, 01:23:46 PM by Dave
Ever! Or at least until we make the thank-you cards. After a long day at the Nelsons, with lots of great help from John, Holly, Amy, and even Matt, we finished making all the programs and various other paper objects for the wedding. It was actually a lot of fun, but pheew! am I glad it's over.
Scattered Showers
July 22, 2005, 04:32:14 PM by Dave
Okay, I've been delinquent on updates, but here are some thoughts about the last few weeks, when friends and family members have again overwhelmed us with kindness.
Two more showers have come and gone and they were both terrific. Phoebe's co-workers at B&N threw her a really great lunch shower that was delightful. She's so happy with her new job and the people she gets to work with.
Then Linda and Pete threw us a great co-ed shower that was an incredible success. Very few people there knew each other, yet everybody got along great and had a wonderful time. Even the kids were all perfect and had a great time playing together with each other (and us!) As an added bonus, our friends the Hollonds, who can't make it to the wedding, just happened to be passing through the cities that weekend and made time to stop by. It was a gift that perfectly capped a perfect evening.
I can't tell you how much these showers have meant to Phoebe and me. We leave saying over and over to each other that we are so lucky to have friends and family like you all. Then we look forward to the wedding all the more, since it'll bring everybody together!
Ok, I'll stop being corny and sign off. We'll get some pictures of all this fun up as soon as possible.
Showered with love (and gifts)
May 23, 2005, 04:11:13 PM by Dave
In keeping with long-standing tradition, Phoebe's first shower was thrown by the members of her mother's bridge group. It was a lot of fun. I even got to take part a little bit.
Having been asked to come and help with the gift-opening part, I arrived at a house packed with women! This shower was mostly for the families, and for old friends of the family, so it was really neat to see all the mingling going on. I missed most of the games, but I did get to see the big "candy-gram" they had prepared for us. I tell you, my face was hurting from all the laughing and smiling. I won't go into all the gifts here (they were all wonderful and are much appreciated) but I can't mention the one gift that spoke for itself, the toaster oven with the amazing talking package. What a laugh that gave us all.
So, thank you all for a wonderful shower, and see you soon.
Bands Selected
March 24, 2005, 02:07:02 PM by Dave
No, not the musical kind. The circular kind. Last week Phoebe and I took some time to select our wedding bands. It was pretty special.
We'd been thinking of what we wanted for a while, but once we got there everything went out the window and we started over. It's a little intimidating picking out something you're going to be wearing everyday from this summer on.
Of course, everything was made easier by our wonderful jeweler, Jeffrey Jewelry http://www.jeffreyjewelry.com, a third-generation family shop. Phoebe remarked to me how "adult" it felt to go downtown to visit "our" jeweler. Especially when it's valet parking!
Everybody at Jeffrey's has treated us so well. Phoebe ended up selecting a nice white gold band to complement her engagement ring, with a line of princess cut diamonds along the top. So sparkly! If you see her I'm sure she'll tell you all about it. She's delighted.
Me, I'd intended to get something matching, or at least similar, but when they brought out the steel bands that thought went right out of my head. They're so cool! I selected a nice titanium band with a brushed finish and two incised bands. It looks great. I'll just have to be careful playing softball. They're much tougher to cut off if there's an accident.
What really surprised me was how fun the whole process was, and, frankly, how easy to spend the money. Sure, these are just symbols, and any ring would do, really. But then you look at her and think how happy you are, and it's like capturing some of that happiness in a beautiful little package, one you're going to show the world for the rest of your life.
Welcome to our website

And what a website it is!
First of all both Phoebe and I, and the cats, would like to establish that all the credit for this wonderful website goes to our kind and talented friend Bill Paarmann. Bill is truly a rock star.
Secondly, welcome! Phoebe and I, and maybe the cats, will be using this section to share some of our thoughts as the big day approaches. I can't tell you how excited we are.
